Nurture Your Natural Beauty

What is breast augmentation?

Breast augmentation surgery, also known as augmentation mammoplasty, is a cosmetic surgery procedure designed to increase breast size, improve breast shape, and create better symmetry. Patients can choose among:

  • Silicone breast implants – These are Dr. Lovell’s preferred option for implants since they have a natural feel and look. Dr. Lovell will discuss the options including round or ergonomic implants. Silicone gel implants are often referred to as “gummy bear implants” due to their cohesive silicone gel that maintains shape similar to a gummy bear.
  • Saline breast implants – Filled with sterile saline solution, these implants offer adjustable volume and are inserted empty, reducing incision size.
  • Fat transfer breast augmentation – Uses autologous fat grafting, where fat tissue is harvested from areas like the abdomen or waist and injected into the breasts for a natural enhancement.
  • Implants + fat transfer breast augmentation - Fat transfer can help smooth implant edges and decrease the appearance of rippling especially in thin patients.

Dr. Lovell will guide you through selecting the best implant type, size, and surgical technique to achieve your desired look.

Care That's Ahead of the Curve

What is the breast augmentation procedure like?

On the day of your breast augmentation surgery, you will receive general anesthesia to optimize your comfort. Dr. Lovell performs breast implant surgery by using an inframammary fold incision (under the breast). This offers excellent soft tissue coverage and hides scarring in the natural crease. Saline and silicone gel implants can be placed using this technique.

Dr. Lovell creates a pocket for implant insertion on top (subfascial) or under (submuscular) the chest (pectoralis major muscle). Dr. Lovell will discuss the pros and cons of going on top or under the muscle based on your anatomy and lifestyle. Patients return home the same day. Dr. Lovell ensures a supportive journey every step of the way so that you can undergo breast augmentation with a positive outlook.

Beautifully Balanced, Uniquely You

What conditions does breast augmentation address?

Breast augmentation helps women achieve their desired breast shape and size by addressing:

Black lingerie with lace detailing and mesh straps.
  • Naturally small breasts that lack volume
  • Breast asymmetry, where one breast is noticeably smaller
  • Loss of breast volume due to weight loss, pregnancy, or aging
  • Mild sagging breasts (severe sagging may require a breast lift)
  • Desire for fuller, rounder, or more contoured breasts
  • Tuberous breast deformity

For women with severely drooping breasts, breast augmentation can be combined with a breast lift for enhanced shape and optimal nipple position.

Your Body, Your Curves, Your Confidence

What are the benefits of breast augmentation?

  • Natural, Feminine Proportions: Enhances breast size while maintaining balance with your body shape.
  • Boosted Confidence: Many breast augmentation patients feel more confident in their appearance, clothing, and swimwear.
  • Customizable Options: Choose from silicone implants, saline implants, or fat transfer to achieve your desired look.
  • Long-Lasting Results: Most breast implants last 10-15 years or longer, providing a long-term enhancement.

From Vision to Reality

Is breast augmentation right for me?

Ideal candidates for breast augmentation surgery are healthy, non-smoking women who want to enhance their breast volume and shape.

Realistic expectations are essential, as results vary based on implant type, body proportions, and existing breast tissue. You may not be a candidate if you have breast implant illness, active breast cancer, or autoimmune or rheumatologic disorders. Dr. Lovell will review your medical history and help determine if breast augmentation is right for you.

Full Support for Your Journey

Breast Augmentation Recovery

After breast surgery, expect mild swelling, bruising, and tightness in the chest. Most breast augmentation patients return to light activities within 5-7 days, though strenuous exercise should be avoided for 4-6 weeks.

Dr. Lovell provides detailed aftercare to ensure a smooth breast augmentation recovery. Wearing a supportive surgical bra, avoiding heavy lifting, and following post-surgical care instructions will help achieve and maintain best results.

Breast Augmentation Results

Although results from breast implant surgery appear immediately, it takes 3-6 months for the implants to settle into position and for the breast to obtain its final shape.

Regular breast imaging and implant check-ups help maintain results. While breast implants are long-lasting, they are not life-long devices and will require replacement at some point. Dr. Lovell sees her patients every year after breast augmentation to ensure everything is looking and feeling great.

Breast Augmentation Frequently Asked Questions

Most breast implants last 10-15 years or more. They may need replacement sooner if issues like implant rupture or capsular contracture occur.

Dr. Lovell places incisions discreetly, often within the inframammary fold. Over time, scars fade significantly.

Most breast augmentation patients can still breastfeed, especially if the implant is placed under the pectoralis major muscle and avoids disruption to the milk ducts. Discuss any future plans to breastfeed with Dr. Lovell so that she can design your treatment plan accordingly.

Yes, silicone gel implants provide a very natural feel, closely resembling real breast tissue.

Both saline breast implants and silicone gel breast implants are FDA-approved.

Capsular contracture occurs when scar tissue around an implant tightens, making the implant appear unnaturally high or causing firmness or rarely discomfort. While uncommon, it can be corrected with revision surgery.

Yes! A breast lift corrects severely drooping breasts and corrects nipple position while breast implants add volume and improve shape.

A saline implant rupture is easily detected as the breast deflates. Silicone breast implants may require ultrasound (US) or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to detect leaks.
